WINDHOEK, 21 AUG – The Okatjasorui Development Committee will host their annual football and netball tournament in Windhoek next month.
One of the organisers, Samuel Ijambo told Nampa yesterday that they planned to host the event from 28 until 30 September. They have also set aside N$33 000 for prize money.
Established in 2012, the committee focuses on supporting the village of Ovitoto through development and sports projects.
“This tournament will only take 24 teams and I am urging teams from all over Namibia to register in advance,” said Ijambo.
Only five premier league players will be allowed per team.
A total of N$11 000 will go towards prizes for the netball category, while the football category gets N$22 000.
The netball winner will take home N$5 000, the runners-up N$2 500 and each semi-final loser, N$1 250.
For football, the winning team will pocket N$10 000, the runners-up N$5 000 and semi-final losers, N$2 500.
“Special awards will be given to the player, coach, referee and umpire of the tournament in both categories,” Ijambo said.
The registration fee for the tournament is N$1 800 and teams will have until 31 August 2018 to pay.
The draw for the competition will take place on 25 September 2018 and the games will be played at the Khomasdal sports grounds and Ella du Plessis High School sports field.
This is the third time the Okatjasorui Development Committee hosts the tournament.
The Super Stars football and netball clubs from Aminuis won last year.
