WINDHOEK, June 20 — Nedbank Namibia, through its Avo SuperShop, is the official sponsor of the Desert Ice Cricket T20 League, one of the country’s most prestigious cricket leagues. In partnership with Impact Cricket Namibia, Nedbank aims to develop young talent and grow the sport in the country.
The N$50,000 sponsorship will provide essential resources to the league, enabling the organizers to host exceptional cricket events throughout the tournament, ultimately aiding in the continued success and expansion of cricket in the community.
Regarding the sponsorship, Roean Kruger, Nedbank Namibia Head of Beyond Banking, who oversees the operations of Avo SuperShop, said, “These are exciting times to be a responsible corporate entity. The Desert Ice Challenge T20 League commenced in April this year and features eight teams with 120 players, including some of the country’s emerging cricket talents, as well as premier league and national players.
This weekend, the league will host games in Gobabis and Tsumeb simultaneously. On June 22, Gobabis Akademi will face Okahandja CC and UNAM Zebras at Gobabis Gymnasium, while Tsumeb Gymnasium will play against RW-Southern Kings and RW-Predator Nation at the Tsumeb Gymnasium sports fields.
The tournament will culminate in semifinal matches and a final to be played at the Walvis Bay Oval in the coastal town during the weekend of July 13-14, 2024.
The league winners will receive prizes courtesy of Avo SuperShop.
