WINDHOEK, 12 JUL – The Namibian Defence Force (NDF) will be collaborating with Botswana in a combined bilateral Batallion level Peace Support Operation (PSO) military exercise, code named Exercise Tshwaragano ll.
The operation is expected to take place in the Kgalagadi District in Botswana from 16-30 July this year.
A media release issued by NDF acting Public Relations Officer, Major Petrus Shilumbu on Thursday highlighted that the exercise will focus on enhancing interoperability in PSO context at regional level in employing the SADC Standby Force within the broad peace and security spectrum.
“The exercise emanated from the resolutions of the joint Permanent Commission on Defence and Security between Namibia and Botswana held in Gaborone in 2012,” Shilumbu noted.
Exercise Tshwaragano ll is the third session of this reciprocal arrangement following Exercise Tshwaragano l, held in Botswana in 2014 and Exercise Hanganee l, held in Gobabis in the Omaheke Region in 2016.
Participating members of the NDF are expected to depart for Botswana on Monday.
An advisory was issued to members of the public not to panic when they see the convoy of NDF vehicles travelling along the Trans-Kalahari Highway to Botswana, as a similar occurrence was reported last year.
