KEETMANSHOOP, 05 JUL – NamPower will suspend power supply to local authorities, government departments and other customers with overdue accounts in the //Kharas and Hardep regions next Wednesday.
“NamPower came to this decision after continuous engagements with the affected parties to settle their outstanding accounts did not yield positive results,” a statement issued on Wednesday said.
The power utility’s Corporate Communication and Marketing Manager, Tangeni Kambangula told Nampa the overdue amounts total N.dollars 47 040 115.
The Tses Village Council, Koës Village Council, Berseba Village Council in the //Kharas Region will be affected, as will the Aranos Town Council and Aranos town abattoir in the Hardap Region.
The statement also said NamPower will suspend the power supply to Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Forestry supply points, which include Neckartal Dam and Kalahari Proefplaas. Veterinary offices at Ariamsvlei Rudenau Nord No 6, Buitepos, Noordoewer Border Post and Noordoewer will also be left in the dark.
Others include the Tsumis Agriculture College’s Pump Kujek and Pump San; the Orange River Green Scheme Project and Agribusdev.
The electricity will be disconnected at 07h00.
“Institutions that provide critical services are advised to ensure that standby generators are used or alternative arrangements are made,” the statement said.
