WINDHOEK, April 27 — Namibian Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism on Monday said they had begun the process of relocating four starved lions from the country’s drought-stricken Kunene region to reunite them with a new pride.
The ministry’s Chief Public Relations Officer Romeo Muyunda said the desert-adapted animals which were in bad state in the Tora conservancy area were starved and will now be relocated to the game reserve near the capital Windhoek.
He said the translocation of the four stared lions was being done together with the friends of the parks initiative which include government and different stakeholders that are into conservation.
Muyunda said the Namibian government is still faced with the dire challenge of human-wildlife conflict and was coming up with better modalities for wild animals to co-exist with humans without infringements.
According to him, the Namibian government is committed to the welfare of the desert-adapted lions in the short and long term.Xinhua
