OTJIWARONGO, 01 AUG – Lieutenant Colonel Philemon Nampala is the new commander of the 46 Artillery Regiment Unit of the Otjiwarongo Military Base, while outgoing Colonel Alwendo Namukwambi was appointed as Deputy Brigadier-General.
The change of command was conducted at the Otjiwarongo Military Base on Wednesday.
Namukwambi will be stationed at the same military base.
The change of command involved Brigadier-General Ambrosius Kushomwa Kwedhi handing over a symbol of military power to Nampala in the presence of other members of the Namibian Defence Force (NDF).
The 56-year-old Nampala accepted his new duties as commanding officer of the 46 Artillery Regiment and thanked the appointing authority for trusting him to take on the position.
“My new role starts today as the commanding officer of the 46 Artillery Regiment Unit. I will need your support and discipline to successfully carry out my duties,” he said.
Nampala received various forms of military training since 1980 in exile, when he was a member of the Swapo military wing. He joined the NDF in July 1990.
