Man stabbed to death over tobacco at Okakarara

OTJIWARONGO, 01 JUN – A 46-year-old man died on Wednesday evening at Outa village in the Okakarara district of the Otjozondjupa Region after he was allegedly stabbed three times with a knife by a 20-year-old man he was fighting over tobacco with.
The deceased has been identified as Benny Kahipura.
Namibian Police Force’s Otjozondjupa spokesperson, Warrant Officer Maureen Mbeha on Thursday told Nampa in an interview that Kahipura and the suspect were first arguing over tobacco and that consequently, a fight ensued.
The deceased is alleged to have first attacked the suspect with an axe during their fight.
“Thereafter, the suspect also pulled out a knife and stabbed the deceased three times,” Mbeha explained.
Police preliminary investigations indicate that Kahipura then retreated from the fight and walked away about 100 metres from where the incident occurred.
It is alleged that he later collapsed in the bushes far away from people, and his body was only discovered on Thursday by a passer-by.
“Stab wounds on his left shoulder and his back were found oh his body,” Mbeha said.
The suspect was arrested on Thursday morning and is expected to appear on Friday before the Okakarara Magistrate’s Court on a charge of murder.
