KEETMANSHOOP,15 MAY– A 29-year-old man accused of murdering a man 10 years his senior here on Saturday, made his first appearance in the Keetmanshoop Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
Benny Pieters appeared before Magistrate Frans Anderson, who denied him bail on the grounds that police investigations are still at an early stage.
Pieters thus remains in custody at the Namibian Police Force holding cells at Keetmanshoop until his next court appearance on 12 July 2018 as set by the magistrate to allow for further investigations and for the accused to apply for legal aid.
State representative Atulala Shikalepo asked the court not to grant bail because the accused might interfere with state witnesses.
Pieters is accused of stabbing Moses Uapingathana in the chest with an Okapi knife at the ‘Day and Night Sheeben’ at Transnamib residential area around 19h00.
Uapingathana died on the spot.
Namibian Police //Kharas Regional Crime Investigation Coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Chrispin Mubebo confirmed the incident to Nampa Sunday, saying witnesses saw Uapingathana fall to the ground after being stabbed.
