RUNDU, 06 JUN – The Directorate of Education in the Kavango West Region will on Thursday start with an admission campaign for school-going children.
Director of Education in the region, Teopolina Hamutumua told Nampa on Tuesday the campaign is meant to remind parents to register children of school-going age as soon as possible.
The campaign activities will start at Sharukwe (07h00 to 08h00), then proceed to Ncaute (09h00 to 10h00), Kaguni (11h00 to 12h00), Mpora (13h00 to 14h00) and Mangetti (15h00 to 16h00).
On Friday, the campaign will move to Ruuga (07h00 to 08h00), Ntara (09h00 to 10h00), Musese (11h00 to 12h00), Nkurenkuru (13h00 to 14h00) and Mpungu (15h00 to 16h00).
This comes after a directive from Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture Permanent Secretary, Sanet Steenkamp was sent out to all regional directors last month informing them about the awareness campaigns.
The directive said the ministry through its regional directorates wants to ensure that every learner is enrolled in school, come next year.
It said the campaign was also necessitated because of Grades 1, 8 and 11 intakes that create challenges every year in all 14 regions.
“Admission of learners should be a collective effort from all stakeholders starting from parents, learners and all educators,” the directive reads.
It added that applications by parents to schools should start this month until July for pre-primary, Grade 1 and Grade 8.
Schools should inform parents in writing about the outcome of their applications not later than 29 September 2018 for the whole process of placement to be finalised by 06 November.
