REHOBOTH, 23 AUG – Julinho Sporting Football Club from Rundu will start with pre-season preparations on Monday to prepare for the Namibia Premier League (NPL) set to kick off in September.
Julinho Sporting returned to the NPL over the past weekend after defeating fellow Northeast First Division outfit, Ntunguru Football Club, 2-1 on aggregate in a two-legged promotional play off.
Nelson Luis, the team manager of ‘The Lions’ as Julinho Sporting are also known, said the players were given a week off before returning to the field on Monday.
“We gave the players a week off to recuperate and rest before we start with our pre-season preparations. We have a lot of work to do with our players to get them in top shape before the league kicks off,” Luis said.
Some of their players loaned to the NPL teams will return, while management is in negotiations with other players to join Julinho.
“At this stage I cannot reveal the names of the players, but we will bolster our squad and have the much needed depth,” he noted.
Luis said the team will be coached by him for now, but they are in the process of setting up a technical team.
“We have assessed what led to us being relegated from the NPL during 2016 and will work on those weaknesses not to be relegated again. I believe with the players we have, we will be able to avoid the drop on our return,” he said.
Julinho Sporting survived relegation by a single point in the 2014/2015 season, but were relegated at the end of the 2015/2016 season along with Flamingoes from Rehoboth and United Stars from Rundu. – NAMPA
