MARIENTAL, 11 JUL – Hardap Governor, Esme Isaack on Tuesday said her region is moving in a progressive direction as the majority of the population is adequately involved in the decision-making process.
Delivering her third State of the Region Address (SORA) in the presence of about 100 people at Mariental, Isaack said government organs such as committees for settlement development, local authority development, constituency development and regional development have conducted meetings to engage the people at grass-root level, which includes them in the process of decision-making.
The Governor gave a brief account on some of the activities and achievements recorded by the region, among them the transformation of the Kai//ganaxab Youth Skills Centre into a fully-fledged vocational training centre.
Isaack said regional and local authority councillors were designated as mentors at schools across the region and a regional education forum was established, inclusive of all relevant role-players to collectively address challenges facing education, youth unemployment, the lack of entrepreneurship and Industrialisation in the region.
In terms of challenges, Isaack highlighted the lack of implementation of projects, outdated educational infrastructure and a deficit of work ethic as some of the key issues curtailing the development of the region.
Isaack referenced the construction of eight pre-primary classrooms to the value of N.dollars 2.6 million at six schools and another 10 standard classrooms at the same number of schools to the value of N.dollars 3 million as a way of addressing some of these issues.
Isaack further called on the private sector, civil society and the non-governmental organisations to play an active role in enhancing the well-being of the region’s inhabitants.
