REHOBOTH, 27 Apr– Hardap Governor, Esme Isaack on Thursday revealed her region’s dates and preparatory measures for the national clean-up campaign, slated for next month.
After initially suggesting 01 May for the envisaged national clean-up campaign, President Hage Geingob moved it to 25 May (Africa Day), following objections from trade unions to it being earmarked for Workers’ Day.
The campaign in Hardap will kick off on 07 May in Maltahöhe, followed by Gibeon (09 May), Kriess (11 May), Gochas (14 May), Aranos (15 May), Stampriet (17 May), Hoachanas (18 May), Klein-Aub (19 May), Mariental (21 May), Kalkrand on 23 May, ending with Rehoboth on 25 May.
Speaking to Nampa, Isaack said a technical committee has been assembled to make sure everything is in place for the mass clean-up of the region.
“We elected a committee on Wednesday, assisted by the local authorities and Hardap Regional Council, that will take care of all the logistics around the campaign and make sure it is a success with everyone in the region being part of it.”
Rehoboth has been identified as the focus area of the clean-up action.
Isaack said although they have identified other towns and villages in Hardap as part of the campaign, they decided that Rehoboth will be the place where the “big clean-up” will take place.
“We have seen in newspapers that people complain about the town being dirty and the B1 national road runs through Rehoboth, with everyone seeing how dirty the town is,” said Isaack.
She urged all residents of Hardap to be part of the campaign to make the region the cleanest in Namibia to attract investors.
“Don’t sit with folded hands and wait for us to clean your areas for you. Each and every person should be part of keeping their towns and villages clean.”
Isaack said they have roped in business people who will assist with cleaning tools, tipper trucks, normal trucks and other equipment for the identified days.
