LONDON, Aug. 28 — Erling Haaland scored an 18th-minute hat-trick as Manchester City showed their firepower to come back from 2-0 down at home to Crystal Palace to win 4-2.
Palace won 2-0 in the Ethiad Stadium last season and looked on track to shock Pep Guardiola’s men once again thanks to a John Stones’ own goal after four minutes and a second from Joaquin Anderson midway through the first half.
Guardiola’s half-time team talk worked wonders and Bernardo Silva pulled a goal back in the 53rd minute, before Haaland’s header from a corner levelled the score in the 62nd minute.
The city was pushing Palace deeper and deeper and in the 70th minute Haaland’s close-range finish from another corner put City ahead and he assured the result nine minutes from time after an assist from Ilkay Gundogan.
Arsenal retains their 100 percent start to the season and remains leaders after recovering from a 56th-minute Aleksandar Mitrovic goal to win 2-1 at home to Fulham.
A deflected shot by Martin Odegaard levelled the scores 10 minutes later and Gabriel Magalhaes won the game when he scrambled home from close range four minutes from time.
Liverpool claimed their first win of the season in an emphatic style with a 9-0 win at home to Bournemouth in a game they led 2-0 after six minutes and 5-0 at halftime.
Luiz Diaz opened the scoring in the second minute and Harvey Elliott doubled the lead, before Trent Alexander-Arnold, Roberto Firmino and Virgil van Dijk took advantage of a woeful Bournemouth.
An own goal made it 6-0 in the first minute of the second half before Firmino added his second just after the hour. Diaz and Fabio Carvalho piled the pain on for the visitors as Liverpool equalled the record for the biggest Premier League win.
New signing Carlos Casemiro was on the bench for Manchester United’s visit to Southampton, which was decided by Bruno Fernandes’ 55th-minute volley following a cross from the right.
The win gives Erik ten Hag’s side consecutive wins and ends a run of seven straight defeats away from Old Trafford.
Chelsea survived Conor Gallagher’s first-half sending-off to win 2-1 at home to Leicester City thanks to two second-half goals from Raheem Sterling. Harvey Barnes pulled one back for the visitors, who were unhappy at seeing a first-half goal ruled out for a supposed foul on Chelsea keeper Edouard Mendy.
Pascual Gross’ 66th-minute goal decided a tight game between Brighton and Leeds United, while Vitaly Janelt’s close-range finish, four minutes from time saved a point for Brentford at home to Everton, who had led thanks to Anthony Gordon’s 24th-minute goal. (Xinhua)
