KATIMA MULILO, Aug. 23 – It’s official; the spirits of SPYL members in the Zambezi region are high after confirmation that President Hage Geingob accepted the invitation to join their congress which kicks-off tomorrow.
According to official communication from State House, President Geingob will officially open the Congress tomorrow, which will take place at Kamunu Hall.
Slated for the next three (3) days, it is widely expected that the Congress will endorse both former Youth Forum leaders Ephraim Nekongo and Christine Haindaka as Secretary and Deputy Secretary of SPYL respectively.
Acting Secretary Veikko Nekundi however, could not be contacted for comment as he is currently involved in marathon meetings of both National Executive Committee and the Central Committee.
Meanwhile, it also appears that Oshikoto Region might be sidelined from proceedings, after their nomination of un-vetted candidate Sioni Iikela.
And it also seems the SPYL leadership has finally forged unity under Nekundi’s leadership, according to a !Kharas delegate who refused to be identified while majority of Swapo Party Regional Coordinators were arriving in Katima. – Robert Maseka
