OTJIWARONGO, 03 APR (NAMPA) – A four-year-old girl died after the shack she was sleeping in caught fire in Okahandja’s Oshetu No.1 informal settlement Friday night.
The deceased has been identified as Kedisha Baadjie.
Spokesperson of the Namibian Police Force in the Otjozondjupa Region, Warrant Officer Maureen Mbeha on Monday told Nampa Baadjie had been asleep in her grandmother’s shack.
“She was left alone sleeping while her grandmother went to visit neighbours when the fire broke out,” Mbeha said.
It is alleged that an illegal electricity connection to the shack caused the fire.
In a separate incident, the body of an unknown man was found lying at the Okahandja dumpsite around 20h40 on Saturday by a passer-by.
Mbeha said the police were called to the scene and they took the body to the Okahandja State Hospital, where the man was declared dead.
She called on members of the public missing a male relative to contact the Okahandja police for possible identification.
