Windhoek, April 6 — Tourism Trends continue to change offering a variety of activities and this seems to be highly the influence of consume behavior, tourism managers now consider sustainability, organic products that could be in packaging, cosmetics or food and drink, and an increase in the intake of digital content and an understanding of technology, environment, and governance factors.
In the future, the global tourism industry is likely to be affected by 3 key factors being the environmental, social, and governance factors. these factors were developed for the purpose of encouraging sustainable tourism, they date as far back as the Brundtland report 1987 which shed light on the positives of including ESG in the tourism action plan. ESG form part of developed guiding principles for sustainable development.
governments are now taking these key factors when making economic decisions or considerations regarding the tourism industry and Namibia is one of the countries that were very quick to jump on this gravy train, going as far as providing training for staff regarding ESG issues, to ensure sustainability in their different fields.
while we consume the positives of tourism in economic form and human form it’s equally important to consider the negative impacts hence high advocacy for ESG is needed as a way to develop and manage tourism to ensure that the positive impacts are maximized and the industry can be preserved for future generations.
