Chinese Embassy supports outstanding Erongo Region learners

SWAKOPMUND, 22 OCT  – Erongo Region Governor Cleophas Mutjavikua has encouraged learners to perform beyond the call of duty and to study hard so as to uplift the country.
Mutjavikua was speaking to learners of Namib High School and Martin Luther High School here on Monday, when they received awards from the Chinese Embassy.
“Also study hard to show appreciation to those assisting you,” he added.
The ceremony saw 40 outstanding learners from both schools receive certificates and N.dollars 1 000 each to encourage them to study harder and continue performing exceptionally in their schoolwork and in sports.
China’s Ambassador to Namibia, Zhang Yiming during the event said the contributions are made to the learners to help them serve their country in future.
“I have initiated the scholarship project with a simple intention, which is to make a contribution to Namibia’s education cause,” he said.
The ambassador said normally, only two schools from each region are selected to benefit from the programme, but with the Erongo Region they have made an exception as four schools were chosen. The other two schools where learners benefited are De Duine High School and the Walvis Bay International School.
Zhang further said China will provide additional funding and training opportunities through seminars and workshops to 2 000 youths, who will also be invited to China for exchange programmes.
Among the learners who received the prizes was Bradley Murere, who is in Grade 9 at Namib High School.
Murere, who represented Namibia in the 100m T46 category at the Paralympic Games in Berlin this year, said he would use his money to purchase equipment which would help him train and perform better.
