KEETMANSHOOP, 26 JUNE – Two men died and two others sustained injuries after the vehicle in which they were travelling with another person overturned on the Keetmanshoop-Berseba gravel road on Friday night.
Detective Chief Inspector Coleen Brandt of the Namibian Police Force’s Crime Investigations Unit in //Kharas, told Nampa on Monday that the accident occurred at around 22h45 some 40 kilometres outside Keetmanshoop.
Brandt said the deceased have been identified as Johannes Rooi, 56, and 20-year-old Redemptius Bock.
“The driver of the vehicle lost control, causing the vehicle to overturn. One of the passengers sustained minor injuries while the other had serious injuries and both were taken to the Keetmanshoop State Hospital,” Brandt said.
The next of kin of the deceased have been informed.
Meanwhile, police at Ariamsvlei arrested a 33-year-old man on Friday after he was found with cannabis in a truck he was driving at the border post.
Brandt said the truck was coming from South Africa into Namibia, where members of the police searched the truck and discovered cannabis weighing 64.4 kilogrammes valued at N.dollars 644 000.
The man was set to appear in the Karasburg Magistrate’s court on Monday.
Police investigations in both cases continue.
