WINDHOEK, 28 MAY – The Brave Warriors’ preparations for the 2018 Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (Cosafa) Cup are on course as they departed for the Pretoria High Performance Centre on Saturday.
The Cosafa Cup started in Limpopo provincial capital Polokwane on Sunday and ends 09 June.
The national men’s football team as one of the seeded teams will confront Zambia in the quarter-finals at 15h00 on Saturday, at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium.
According to a media statement availed by Namibia Football Association Media Officer, Dan Kamati on Monday, national football team coach Ricardo Mannetti and his technical team jetted out with 19 players for a rigorous training camp at the High Performance Centre. They will depart for their match venue on Wednesday to finalise preparations for the vital 2018 quarter-final match against Zambia.
Goalkeeper Edward Maova and striker Peter Shalulile are the two players left behind due to injuries, while 22 players are in contention for places to face Zambia on Saturday.
Namibia won their only Cosafa Cup in 2015, before claiming the Plate competition on home soil the following year.
They again made the Plate decider in 2017, but this time lost to hosts South Africa.
The statement further said three of Namibia’s players, Wangu Gome (Platinum Stars) and Denzil Haoseb and Ananias Gebhardt (Jomo Cosmos) will team up with the rest of the squad if and when they are released from involvement in the South African Premier League promotion/relegation playoffs.
