Bar council president in India’s Uttar Pradesh shot dead


NEW DELHI, June 12  — Bar Council president in northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, Darvesh Singh Yadav, was shot dead Wednesday by a fellow-advocate, police said.

Yadav was attacked while she was attending an event in district court premises of Agra, about 335 km west of Lucknow, the capital city of Uttar Pradesh.

“Today at around 2:30 p.m. (local time) newly elected Bar Council president Darvesh Singh Yadav was fired upon by fellow lawyer Manish Sharma, who had been her long-time acquaintance,” a police official posted in Agra told Xinhua. “Though she was immediately removed to hospital but she succumbed there to the bullet wounds.”

After firing upon Yadav, Sharma also shot himself, according to police.
“He too was removed to a nearby hospital in wounded condition,” the police official said.
According to police officials, a case was registered in this regard and investigations were ordered into the incident. – XINHUA
