Attempted murder accused denied bail

WINDHOEK, 15 JUN – A 32-year-old man appeared in the Opuwo Magistrate’s Court on Thursday for attempted murder.
Tangeni Thomas Kanyetusa Haufiku appeared before Magistrate Eliud Nakulonda after he allegedly stabbed Pontanus Kangora Shiyava, 45, in the stomach on Tuesday at Okapumbu village in the Omakange policing area.
It is alleged that the accused found the victim in his girlfriend’s house and concluded that he was in an intimate relationship with her, which led to an altercation between Shivaya and Haufiku, during which the stabbing incident occurred.
Shiyava was taken to the Omakange clinic, from where he was later rushed to the hospital at Tsandi for further treatment before being moved to the Oshakati State Hospital.
State Prosecutor Aubrey Ndlovu, who represented the State told Nampa the accused was denied bail as the offence he committed is very serious.
Ndlovu added that the accused cannot be granted bail as the victim has been rushed to the Oshakati State Hospital from Tsandi.
“We will have to wait and see how the victim’s condition improves to be able to decide on the bail condition,” Ndlovu said.
The case was postponed to 25 October 2018 for further investigations.
