Arandis Town Council raising funds for emergency centre

WINDHOEK, 12 JUL  – The Arandis Town Council will host a gala dinner next week to raise funds for the construction of a N$ 121 million emergency response and traffic management centre along the B2 national road.
The B2 national road runs along Walvis Bay, Arandis and Usakos.
The centre will be known as the Arandis Emergency Response and Traffic Management Centre and will provide emergency response, traffic management and control services along that road.
This was announced by Chairperson of the Erongo Regional Council Hafeni Ndemula at a media conference in Windhoek on Wednesday.
The gala dinner will be hosted on 20 July 2018 in Walvis Bay to raise funds from the public and private sectors in curbing accidents on national roads.
Ndemula explained that of the N$ 121 million, currently there is N.dollars 3 million contributed by the Arandis Town Council, with infrastructure alone costing N$20 million.
He said once completed, the centre will house various stakeholders for emergency response such as the Ministry of Health and Social Services, Namibian Police and Motor Vehicle Accident Fund to render services.
Ndemula said the centre will further provide 24/7 live monitoring of vehicles from Arandis to Walvis Bay and motorists will be captured if they do not obey to the speed limit.
“Over the years, we have observed cases of motor vehicle accident victims succumbing to injuries whilst being transported to either Swakopmund or Usakos, while Arandis could have rendered the immediate trauma response,” he stressed.
Ndemula continued that it will further contribute significantly towards halving the number of fatalities per 100 000 inhabitants by 2022 as prescribed by the Fifth National Development Plan.
The emergency response project is in partnership with the National Road Safety Council and is expected to become operational in 2020.
