Algerian troops kill terror suspects, seize weapons

ALGIERS, April 1-- Algerian counterterrorism troops killed an armed militant and three "terror-supporting" individuals, while seizing some arms and ammunition, in March, Algerian Defense Ministry said in a statement on Wednesday.
   The source added that as many as 39 terrorist bunkers were discovered, as army troops retrieved three Kalashnikov machine guns, 29 handmade bombs as well as some explosive materials, chemicals and dynamite. 
   During the same period, army troops also retrieved 16 hunting rifles, two conventional weapons, two automatic guns, three grenades, nine ammunition crates, 1746 bullets, 27 detonators, and two drones equipped with surveillance cameras.
   In 2019, Algerian army troops killed 15 terrorists and arrested 25 others, while 44 others surrendered to authorities, the source said, adding that 245 individuals charged with offering support to terrorist groups were arrested.
   The North African country deployed tens of thousands troops along the border with Mali and Libya to thwart intrusion of terrorists and arms. Xinhua
