WINDHOEK, Nov. 28 -- Air Namibia, which has been forced to cut its operating costs to the bone after the treasury refused a 2-billion-Namibian-dollar (136 million U.S. dollars) bailout last month, has warned that it might be forced to shut down operations if it doesn't receive a rescue package. The national flag carrier's spokesperson Paul Nakawa told media on Thursday that the airline needs to learn to do more with less, adding that day-to-day operations will be affected if no government support is received. Air Namibia recently announced that it would be introducing austerity measures on its regional routes, after the finance minister of the southwest African nation denied the state-owned airline a state bailout last month. Namibia's Finance Minister Calle Schlettwein previously said it would be a waste of scarce public resources to rescue the airline, which has failed to turn a profit or provide direct dividends over the last 29 years.
