WINDHOEK, SEPT. 27 – 60 years, and still going strong – The much anticipated annual Windhoek Oktoberfest is expected to be even bigger in 2018. Launched at the headquarters of one of its founding sponsors, Namibia Breweries Limited (NBL) – a subsidiary of the Ohlthaver & List (O&L) Group –yesterday, the 2018 Windhoek Oktoberfest has grown to become one of the country’s most appreciated cultural festivals.
CULTURAL DIVERSITY AND AUTHENTICITY
One of the greatest success stories of the annual Windhoek Oktoberfest, which takes place on 26 and 27 October this year, is how it has developed from a typical German festival to one of the country’s most culturally diverse events. Chairman of the Windhoek Oktoberfest committee, Norbert Wurm: “Every year I look forward to the joyful atmosphere that has developed over the years at the Windhoek Oktoberfest. The diversity in participants and guests, both local and from across the world, has made this event even more colorful as time goes by. It has blossomed into a beautiful Namibian cultural celebration, irrespective of its origins.” On the entertainment factor, an excited Wurm had this to say: “While the traditional Kirchdorfer band from the Munich Oktoberfest in Germany, as in recent years will again be this year’s main entertainment, we have a few surprises up our sleeves for 2018. Furthermore, the Windhoek Oktoberfest has over the years proven to be a great family event, with a perfect mix of traditional games for all ages, accompanied by good traditional Bavarian cuisine that is always available to satisfy that crave for a bite of bratwurst, or a salty pretzel that tends to naturally accompany one throughout the festival. It is a celebration of culture, which also celebrates our diversity in showcasing German roots but with our Namibian uniqueness, originality and authenticity.”
PUPKEWITZ BMW JOINS FORCES
With a cash sponsorship of N$150, 000 (partly sponsored by BMW South Africa), Pupkewitz BMW joined forces with NBL and its founding partner, the Sports Klub Windhoek (SKW), as a partner of the Windhoek Oktoberfest, which – according to Armand Barnard (Dealer Principal of Pupkewitz BMW) – is inspired by the impressive growth of the event, its strong brand presence on the local entertainment scene, and the respected cultural platform it has grown to become over the years. Barnard: “Pupkewitz BMW is proud to be associated with the Windhoek Oktoberfest. At this year’s Oktoberfest, we will also provide courtesy vehicles for the festival to help with transport and transfers of the Kirchdorfer band and their equipment, as well as support in marketing the 2018 Windhoek Oktoberfest. We will furthermore provide VIP parking to any BMW owner that will attend the Oktoberfest with 24/7 security. In addition, we will make available a chauffeur service to any BMW owner that would like to be driven home with his/her vehicle or with a Pupkewitz BMW.”
